Canada were one of the surprise packages in qualification, but they managed to scoop top spot in CONCACAF qualifying to qualify for only their second ever World Cup, the previous one being in Mexico in 1986. In that tournament, Canada failed to score even a single goal, but this year’s tournament will serve as a wonderful experience for a Canadian side that has already qualified for the 2026 World Cup as co-hosts of the expanded competition. They avoided defeat in their first 17 qualifiers, losing only after having secured their spot in Qatar. They were knocked out in the semi finals of the Gold Cup last July but could be one of the dark horses of the tournament.
Player to Watch
At only 22 years of age, Davies has already collected a host of trophies at Bayern, including four Bundesliga titles, 2 cup titles and the UEFA Champions League. He registered five goals and three assists in his 13 games in qualifying, finishing as the third top scorer despite the fact he is a defender. Undoubtedly a super star for many years to come, Davies will be the one to watch in this Canadian squad this winter.
